Golf ball dimples
Everyone has always wondered – how many golf ball dimples are in a golf ball
Throughout the game of golf, many people have wondered how many golf ball
dimples are in a golf ball. When you look at a golf ball up close, it can be
very difficult to tell how many dimples are in that ball. Anyone familiar
with golf knows that golf ball dimples help the ball to travel higher and
further.
The golf ball dimples first appeared on golf balls more than 100 years ago
when golfers first began to discover that balls which had been scratched
traveled much farther than smoother balls. Once they discovered this, they
began to put dimples in virtually every golf ball that they used.
In general, golf ball dimples are what gives the golf ball a lift. They
create two layers of air which travel around the ball. With the top layer
going faster than the bottom layer, a lift of turbulence is created. This
will help to reduce the drag and allow the ball to travel much farther than
a smoother ball.
Among the many different companies, each one has their own design for golf
ball dimples. Normally, a golf ball can have anywhere from 350 – 500
dimples. All in all, dimples are what a golf ball fly through the air and
down the course.
